The Sahakar Maharshi Shankarrao Mohite-Patil Pratishthan was established by Hon. Late. Pratapsinh Shankarrao Mohite-Patil on 16th May 1981. He received inspiration from his father Sahakar Maharshi Late Shankarrao Narayanrao Mohite-Patil. The social work done by the Sahakar Maharshi in the fields like Education, cooperation and Agriculture forms a rich heritage for him. Malshiras Tehsil is especially known as a draught-prone zone. Agriculture is the first and final source of livelihood. The irrigation facilities though scanty had created some change in the lookout of this region. The pioneering work made by the Late. Sahakar Maharshi through Co-operative movement. So, there are Co-operative Argo-based Industries, Banks, Pathasanstha, Dairies, Sugar Industries etc.
Education is one of the important means of bringing about the desired social change. Malshiras and Karmala tehsil were still underdeveloped and people were in the clutches of superstitions. It was very necessary to open the doors of higher education to the needy, economically weaker sections, downtrodden and the deprived masses of the society at large. Pratishthan undertakes various social activities to bring about the changes and awareness in the society. These activities include providence of educational facilities such as to establish Sahakar Maharshi Shankarrao Mohite Patil Mahavidyalaya, Natepute, Pratapsinh Mohite-Patil Mahavidyalaya, Karmala and Swami Sarvadanand Diagnostic Centre, Akluj. The diagnostic center provides medical facilities to the needy at concessional rates. As well as to establish educational, professional and industrial schools, popularize the family planning movement of the Govt., to make available educational and medical services to the Physically handicapped and the poor people and to make available educational and financial facilities for the landless laborers.
The founder of Pratishthan and his trustees work with the principle of “Service to the people is service to God” Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of this region. However, the scanty rainfall and the traditional methods of agriculture are still obstacles to the development of society. The Pratishthan has decided to bring change in the field of agriculture by using new methods and technologies as well as to make available the source of water through building various “Bandaras” and canals
