Pratapsinh Mohite-Patil Mahavidyalaya, Karmala Dist.- Solapur (Maharashtra) was established in August 2007 by SMSMP Pratishthan, Akluj to provide science education to students of drought-prone tehsil Karmala in Solapur district. The great visionary social worker and veteran politician Honourable Loknete Pratapsinh Shankarrao Mohite-Patil made the wise decision to establish a science college for needy students in Karmala Tehsil. Initially, it was established as a non-grant college and in 2010received a Grantfrom the state government and covered in non-grant status to Grant-in-aid status;presently it is affiliated with Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University, Solapur. It is the first college in Karmala tehsil to offer science education after 60 years of independence. Before the establishment of the college, the students of Karmala tehsil had to travel long distances to Pune, Ahmednagar, Barshi, Solapur, etc, for science education. The college was accredited with a ‘C’ grade (CGPA 1.80) in 2018 by the NAAC, Bangalore. Furthermore, the college secured a ‘C’ grade with 59.50% (238/400) in “Academic and Administrative Audit” (AAA) conducted by P A H Solapur University, Solapur in 2022-23.
The aims and objectives of the college are to provide modern and ethical education, especially to the downtrodden irrespective of caste, creed, gender, religion, and language. The college offers Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree programs in 8 courses includinga self-financing B.Sc. (Computer Science), and 3 college-approved skill-based certificate courses. The college has recruited well-qualified7 Permanent and 11 CHB teaching staff along with 7 non-teaching support staff. Among the teaching staff,4 are Ph.D. degree holders whereas the remaining are NET/SET qualified and pursuing their Ph.D. degree.Being a university-affiliated college, the faculty contributes to designing curricula through various university committees and academic bodies such as thefaculty, BOS, and syllabus framing sub-committees.
The College takes initiatives for integrated teaching-learning by inspiring teachers to go beyond the academic framework and focus on the intellectual, physical, moral, and ethical education of students. The teaching faculty avails a `participatory teaching-learning process’ for students through seminars, group discussions, study tours, unit tests, mid-term exams and practical examinations. For the benefit of academically poor and advanced learners, the college runs remedial classes. To make teaching and learning more effective and to update the knowledge of the students, advanced ICT techniques are effectively used. Internet and INFLIBNET facilities are available to the students and the faculty. Internal Quality Assurance Cell makes an all-out effort to enhance the academic standards of the college through various events such as National, State, and University level conferences /seminars /workshops /symposia.
The College has constituted a research committee to boost and monitor research activities. currently, 2 teachers have been recognized as research guides for Ph.D. by P A H Solapur University and 6 faculty members received grants for minor research projects from a funding agency. The teaching faculty members published Researchpapers in referred International and National Journals;actively participated in International/ National conferences seminars/ symposia/workshops and presented research papers/posters etc.
The Cultural department of the college organizes various cultural competitions for students to motivate students to participate in the university Youth Festival and events organized by other institutes. The college has a sports department to foster sports spirit among students and it is well equipped with many indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The college organized the Intercollegiate shooting volleyball Tournament in 2018 and 2023 in collaboration with P A H Solapur University, Solapur. The NSS department of the College participates in social programs connected with AIDS awareness, blood donation, voter registration movement, secular culture, Save Girl Child, tree plantation, anti-dowry movements, anti-superstition, etc. The College has a placement cell, alumni association, Teacher-student mentor-mentee scheme, and career guidance cell for various competitive examinations.The college has well enriched, automated(software with barcode and scanner) and sufficiently informative library having reference books text books, research journals, periodicals and audio-visual aids.
